Description

At the back corner of a church fundraiser, my dear friend Madelyn found this tired cabinet. It was sporting a completely worn off finish – so it appeared dry and neglected. She messaged me whether i would be possibly be interested. The moment i saw the picture she sent me, I was smitten.  A gently curved front profile stole my heart. Pretty hardware (albeit dulled from wear at the time) and a perfect size!  Excitedly we messaged her that we would come for her.

Surprised by her weight, we examined her further – and she was solid wood from top to bottom. And she was every bit the beauty I expected!  Knowing that she deserved to be made beautiful again, I began the painstaking process of repairing/rebuilding and restyling her.   (I am having a rather hard time parting with her now!! )

The inspiration for her treatment was Vincent Van Gogh’s art called “Starry night”,  which our kids attempted to paint in elementary school art class. So that piece has a special place in my heart – all that moody blue night sky and all! (for the purposes of this piece, the egg-yolk yellow moon was omitted ;P  )  After experimenting with colours and techniques, I came to appreciate the final look.

The hardware was lovingly cleaned and given a fresh look – the softest champagne nickel colour.  I hate to admit that this whole process took almost a year!  But in the end, I know she will be someone’s special piece again!
